Newsweek: "With the Heaviest of Hearts" (This Monday's edition)

They bunked together off base in Anchorage, more like grad students than grunts. One by one, the war claimed their lives. The letters the soldiers left behind.

March 24, 2007 - Of the dozens of e-mails Army Sgt. Sean Fennerty wrote home during his three months in Iraq, the most wrenching dispatch reached his parents on Dec 12, 2006. "I write this with the heaviest of hearts," Fennerty typed into a military computer at his base in Baghdad, after attending a memorial service for two members of his airborne brigade killed in a roadside bombing. "They were two of my best friends and that was the squad I moved to, and then moved back from," he wrote.

2. Too....many.....way too many...
Edited on Sun Mar-25-07 08:24 AM by Ken Burch
As Robert Kennedy asked, speaking of those who had died in Vietnam:

"...Which of them might have written a poem? Which of them might have cured cancer? Which of them might have played in a World Series or given us the gift of laughter from the stage or helped build a bridge or a university? Which of them would have taught a child to read? It is our responsibility to let these men live....It is indecent if they die because of the empty vanity of their country."

Damn you, Dubya. This state gave you its electoral votes twice and, in repayment, you send its sons and daughters off to die?

rot in hell, you draft-dodging murderer.

4. ....
:cry::cry::cry::cry:

my local Strykers are very, very scared of being redeployed; their equipment isn't ready, won't be for about a year...........

but that won't stop the asshole who lives in Al Gore's White House.

The adn site is really great; surprises me that ANY Alaska newspaper carries this type of tribute.

8. Impeachment Summer Begins This Spring! 4/28
http://www.a28.org/

George Bush and Dick Cheney have lied the nation into a war of aggression, are spying in open violation of the law, and have sanctioned the use of torture. These are high crimes and misdemeanors that demand accountability. Since Congress doesn't seem to get it, on April 28 Americans from Miami, Florida to North Pole, Alaska are going to spell it out for them: IMPEACH! It's time to say NO to impunity for lying, spying, and torture.

The theme of the day is spell it out, and we're going to put the word IMPEACH! everywhere on April 28. If you're in Miami you can join the Unwelcoming Party for George Bush, who will speaking at Miami Dade College that day. If you're in San Diego you can tell Nancy Pelosi to put impeachment back on the table. And there are more than 100 hundred other actions planned around the country!

9. Hi, Jon!
How nice to see you here. This is Linda whose photos of the September 2005 DC peace march you used at that little gathering over at the University a while back. I've been enjoying your e-mails from Peace & Justice. Keep up the good work. :)
