I no longer live in AK but am getting pretty tired of the anti-AK bs being posted |
|
elsewhere on DU. Yes, AK is a different place than most places outside, except for places like rural Montana, or rural other places, or other small towns anywhere, but you'd think you/we all were narrow minded repub cretins looking only to have sex with babies and kill whatever animal we could locate. It gets old.

I appreciated your backup in that particular thread. I shouldn't have let that guy get to me, but his tone in the OP was just so-o-o condescending. Of course, we're different, but we're not foreign, alien -- "other." What the hell does that mean anyway? I thought Democrats were supposed to be the party of inclusion.
No wonder the Alaska Independence Party has followers -- it's pretty obvious a lot of people don't want to consider us part of the United States.

2. I've noticed bashing other places, people's misconceptions about AK as well as |
|
rural living, not to mention sexism, since Palin has been bopping about here. It has been pretty amazing.
That guy was exceptionally obnoxious, but have been educating elsewhere as I can.

I'm guessing that most Dems here are really tweaked with the election shit. I'm calling them rabid until a better definition finds itself useful.

4. Greetings from Arizona (and Alabama) |
|
I've lived here longer than John McCain, so I can sympathize with what it is like to be represented by right-wing buffoonery. We don't seem to be taking as much abuse for it. It has been aggravating to watch his career.
I also grew up in Alabama during the George Wallace years. It became really tiring to explain to people that we were not ALL like that. It was even worse telling somebody that I was from Alabama and discover that they liked Wallace and they felt like they should congratulate us for electing him.

People are just so enraged right now - possibly scared of getting the short stick again like last time. I would try your hardest not to take anything offensive towards your home state to heart. One person or a group of persons does not provide an efficient sample of a population of a state.
I had the same problem when people were laughing saying Floridians don't know how to use a polling booth.
Obama for President.

I was just browsing this forum to seee what all was being posted about Sarah et al.
I'm a lifelong Texan (except for 2 6-month stretches just after birth when I lived in TN and VA), and I moved to Wisconsin in September 2007.
Texas has such an awful reputation now, thanks to W and all his asshole friends. It's difficult to explain to everyone how wonderful it was to grow up there with the tradition of LBJ, Lady Bird, Barbara Jordan, Ann Richards, Jim Hightower, John Connally, and so many more.
But you know, I've seen just as bad in Wisconsin since I moved here. I have to drive through Waukesha County to get to work, and I see TONS of McCain signs here. It's NOT that different from Texas. The only difference I see is that here people aren't afraid to get in your face with politics. Down there, everyone just assumes you're voting Republican, so they're more polite about their assholiness. Here, it's on display so everyone can see it. Even at work. That's been REALLY hard for me, and already gotten me fired from one job.
Keep the faith, fsc

7. My husband, a formerTexas resident for 50 years, |

had a telephone visit with an old friend from Texas yesterday, and inevitably the subject of the presidential election came up. The friend thinks that Sarah Palin is absolutely wonderful, and when he heard that Jim was voting for Obama, he exclaimed incredulously, "But he's BLACK!" I can't believe people are still this ignorant.

Tell yer hubby to keep the faith. Remember tha Alamo... And thanks for giving us the real scoop of what's going on up there.

12. Question, uppityperson. Did you know anyone in Alaska who had |
|
Palin's accent or speaking style? I have a friend from Anchorage who said she'd never known anyone who sounded like Palin, and my friend had been in Wasilla numerous times.
