Sullivan beats Croft in Anchorage Mayor's race. |
|
http://www.adn.com/Damn. Eric would have been great. Anybody know why the Daily News didn't back him in the primary? They're supposed to be the LIBERAL newspaper in the state.

1. The Daily News has really gone downhill |
|
in the past few months. For weeks now they've been letting the TS and C4P people censor the online comments and they've gotten many long-time posters banned. A couple days ago they printed an editorial comment chastising the people filing ethics complaints against the guv, and then this endorsement of Sullivan from out of the blue. One of the first things I'm going to do when I get back to Alaska tomorrow is cancel my subscription. Phil Munger has had a couple of good posts lately about how far they've fallen. I just can't support them anymore. http://progressivealaska.blogspot.com/2009/05/saturday-alaska-progressive-blog.htmlhttp://progressivealaska.blogspot.com/2009/05/anchorage-daily-news-comforting.htmlhttp://progressivealaska.blogspot.com/2009/05/call-to-arms.html

2. Sadly i'm not suprised... |

I was in Anchorage during the primary, and wow... I'm still stunned that Mr "guilty on corruption" won, by such a large margin. Anchorage is a beautiful place, as is Alaska in general, and the people there are definitely unique.
However I'd still move there. I'm a California boy, but I was born in Kodiak, and AK has always held a special place in my heart.
That said, I'm not at all surprised by this. IIRC there is ONE under-powered mostly, kinda, liberal radio station... one!

Just fired their last two "live" hosts: CC, and Carey Carrigan. They will carry on with Air America Programming, which is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. It was nice for awhile having a liberal leaning radio station in town that had live hosts with local issues.

But Eric kept bringing up the 14 % sales tax that Dan was proposing. The problem being that Dan could honestly say he never proposed a sales tax. Eric came off looking pretty silly. But, he never gave up the issue...living and dieing on a spurious claim is a bad way to run for mayor. Too bad, Dan is not the most dynamic guy in the room. But, here we go anyway. I won't hold my breath for him to drastically cut the municipal government and cut property taxes.
