Air America Phoenix off the air Feb 1st

Thanks for writing. It appears that the new format will be Christian
broadcasting as of February 1st.

We are scrambling to find another station so Air America programming will
continue to be heard in the Phoenix area. Wish us luck!

trying to take a glass half-full approach here...

Is that I was so fed up with them powering down at sunset, esp while listening to M/M on Saturdays.
Never got to listen past dark.

So, here's to hoping that the new AAR will be even more powerful.

3. FCC and physics (signals bounce off the ionosphere)

AM waves don't bounce as much off the ionosphere during the day, but at night, that changes, so in order to prevent interference from one radio market to another, there are limits imposed on most AM stations.

Of course, I should have realized that as the earth moves from day to night there's a concordant shift from "groundwave" to "skywave" (ionospheric) propagation of the AM waves resulting in massive interference of the long AM signals.
