Is that rain I see in the east valley, or did our senators finally make the baby jesus cry?
Ominous timing, seeing how it's been 115 days without a drop, no?

1. Is 115 days really unusual? |
|
And, having been in the desert right after a rain, I hope you take pictures of the flowers that will spring up, and post them here.

11. We have a winter rainy season...usually. |
|
But, so far, it hasn't appeared. They're calling the dry spell "la nina," the opposite of a rainy "el nino" season. April, May, and June are the driest months. The rest of the year, we normally get some measurable rain, every month. So, 115 days without a drop is a long time.
The flowers you've seen can be spectacular--sometimes, like orange and purple carpets, as far as the eye can see--but a really good showing requires beaucoup winter rain.

3. I see clouds. They look rain-ish, but I guess we'll see. |
|
If we don't get rain in a few weeks, it seems to me that we stand a good chance of not seeing any until July. Anybody for doubling the previous record?

I wonder if it was enough to "measure?" The definition seems to hinge on "measureable" rainfall.

I've been stuck in Florida for nearly a month and it's dry here, but folks back home have told me that NM has gotten NOTHING since I've been away.

9. It's only 105 days. :-) |

We set a new record last Saturday! I don't think there was any rain in the valley today. I'll be surprised if we see any rain until the monsoon this summer. And even then, I don't think much rain will fall.

a steady, light drip for about 5 minutes.
Just enough to make everything absolutely filthy.

The 101 record is for the airport.
Given the size of the valley, chances are, there are areas in metro PHX where the record is much higher than 101.
You know how that works ... raining at the airport and dry as in bone in Avondale and East Mesa and of course, vice versa.

I've lived here now for about 2.5 years and I really miss weather.
