Arizona deputies find empty casket

TUCSON, Ariz. — An empty casket with a military seal was discovered in a desert area south of Tucson, and sheriff's deputies were looking for the body.

"Obviously it had the smell, and there was other evidence that it had been inhabited recently," Deputy Dawn Barkman said Sunday.

Forensic investigators took DNA samples, and a nationwide alert was issued in hopes of finding out who was the casket, Barkman said.

A military-style casket that was discovered on the South Side
Saturday afternoon had been disposed of by a local mortuary
after the body inside was cremated at the end of May, an official
said Monday.


The silver casket, which had a U.S. Army insignia on it,
was found in the desert near East Drexel Road and Interstate 10
by people who were paintballing, said Deputy Dawn Barkman,
a Pima County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman.


On Sunday, a local mortuary called the Sheriff's Department
after seeing news coverage and told authorities they believed
the casket was one they disposed of at the end of May, Barkman said.


According to the mortuary, a family had their loved one
exhumed from a local cemetery and had the body cremated, she said.


After the cremation, the casket was taken to a land fill,
where it was subsequently stolen from, Barkman said.

As a Michigander who has learned a dirty trick or two from the right... here's what you need to do:

First, make it seem as though the story about the cremation was a cover-up.

Build a conspiracy theory that the Republican party wanted to keep the body of the fallen soldier a secret because of the declining support for the war.

Then, as time goes by and Iraq is just a bad memory, every 5 years or so you need to send out search parties/digging expeditions/river dredges, etc. looking for the body, to remind people of the Republicans' aweful war.

That's kind of what the Repubs do here in Michigan with Jimmy Hoffa to make the labor unions look bad. Why couldn't that work for us? Oh yeah, because we have a conscience!
