August 18, 2006 Press release from Pederson's web site:
"PEDERSON CHALLENGES KYL TO THREE TELEVISED DEBATES
Calls on Kyl to debate the issues across Arizona
PHOENIX — Today, business leader and U.S. Senate candidate Jim Pederson challenged U.S. Sen. Jon Kyl to three televised debates.
The Pederson campaign faxed a letter to the Kyl campaign proposing three televised debates: one in Northern Arizona, one in Phoenix and one in Southern Arizona. These debates will allow the people of Arizona to compare the two candidates' visions for Arizona and America.
“The people of Arizona deserve a vigorous debate on the issues,” Pederson said. “Arizona hasn’t had a truly competitive Senate race in a generation. These televised debates will present Arizonans with a simple question: Do we want to continue down the same broken road or do we want a new direction?”
Jim sent the following letter to Senator Kyl today:

Senator Jon Kyl
P.O. Box 10246
Phoenix, AZ 85064
Dear Senator Kyl,
The coming election will be an important one for Arizona, and the nation. This is the first competitive Arizona U.S. Senate race in a generation, and the people of this state deserve an honest, open discussion between the candidates. So let’s get the issues in front of the voters.
We should have a rigorous discussion about our priorities, as well as an opportunity to lay out our solutions for what ails America. To that end, I would like to set up three televised debates: one in Northern Arizona, one in Phoenix and one in Southern Arizona – a reasonable request. A member of my staff will contact your campaign in the next 24 hours to establish a framework to begin negotiations.
Sincerely,
Jim Pederson"
