Alert: Buffalo River Privatization Plans Underway
I got this in an email alert. The information came from a local environmentalist that I know personally.

The Steel Creek area of the Buffalo River is slated to undergo a
major overhaul that so far has been completely under the radar. The new
superintendant of the Buffalo National Park Service has plans that
are already in the works to turn Steel Creek over to concessioners for a
commercial horse/dude ranch. The confirmed new plans include all of the following :

Pave the road into Steel Creek from the highway, Pasture horses year
round in the fields at Steele Creek, build outbuildings for a horse ranch
concessioner, build a store to sell groceries and tack, tear down the
research house used by university and other researchers, lease the
stone house to the concessioner, double horse camping at the campground.

These are not speculative plans. They are confirmed to be underway.
The problem is these plans break the law of a Wild and Scenic River Act
designation as it is developing the shoreline. We need to get the
word out to landowners, horse ranchers, concerned citizens and Buffalo River lovers.
This is already in motion so we must act quickly if we want to
preserve the natural beauty of Steel Creek.

There was no indication on who we write about this--but I would assume your Congresscritters would be a good start.
