do you think Reagan could get elected governor in the CA of 2010? |
|
How would you compare the CA of 1966 to the CA of 2010?

1. Probably not since he's dead |
|
I didn't vote for him in 1966 but he really hammered the Watts riots which had occurred the previous summer. It was one of the earliest fear based campaigns I can recall and it would play very well with a lot of scared elderly white voters (and more than a few who aren't elderly but still scared). You have to remember he really hadn't fully adopted the supply side bullshit he came to believe in later. Although he did babble on about tax cuts.
The demographics of California would not favor him but the education level of CA citizens has decreased substantially since then. The whole state has pretty much gone into the shitter. Education, infrastructure, local government are all suffering behind the passage of Prop 13 (which didn't happen until Raygun was out of office).
I'd say it's a push whether he'd be elected or not. Even if he wasn't dead.

2. well it was a hypothetical question obviously |
|
do you think that if you took the Reagan of 1966 and inserted him into today's California, would he be electable? The reason I ask this is because I've always thought that California is the poster child for conservative flight.

5. Considering the popularity of zombie movies, I wouldn't be surprised if the undead were voted in. |

Education. I know because I was in college then. Teacher salaries were crap then too. I know because I married my creative writing teacher.

3. California elected Schwarzenegger twice |
|
So yes. And I wasn't here in '66.
That NutMeg is a serious candidate also blows me away.

6. Exactly, look at the current office holder. Look at the Republican candidate. |
