Petaluma man arrested in Port-a-Potty theft

On Tuesday, Jeffrey Turner's chief problem was a backed up septic system that apparently prohibited use of the toilets in his rural Petaluma home. That, and he was on probation.

A day later, he had working plumbing, all right, but it was courtesy of the Sonoma County Jail, where he landed after authorities said he stole a Port-a-Potty from a PG&E job site and took it home.

A neighbor who thought it odd to see Turner, 41, on an all-terrain vehicle towing the mobile loo down Spring Hill Road on Tuesday was suspicious enough to call the county sheriff's office, sheriff's Sgt. Brad Burke said.

Turner, Burke said, “eventually owned up” and was arrested for suspected grand theft — the value of the Port-a-Potty having been put at about $600.

“It was one of the deluxe ones - you know, with the sink and everything,” Burke explained.
