Which congressional race is the most important? |
|
District 3? John Salazar will most likely win this district and it will be a Democratic pickup.
District 4? Matsunaka takes on the hateful homophobe. In a dead heat. One could argue that if Matsunaka unseats Musgrave, that it would rebuke her and the Republicans for all this FMA bullshit.
District 6? Joanna Conti vs. Border cop Tancredo. Tancredo is very uneffective as a congressman. And is also a one-issue politician and a political pariah.
District 7? Thomas vs. 121 votes Beauprez. It is quite funny that Dave has issued the $121 challenge on his website as a riff on Beauprez's margin of victory. This could be another pick-up because the people in CD 7 are generally unhappy with Beauprez especially being in lockstep with Bush.
As for District 1, Degett should keep that and it will stay Democrat. District 2. I should hope Udall will hold the seat. He has been a good congressman, though there are conservative areas in the district. I saw a few Steve Hackman signs in Georgetown. District 5, I hate to be pessimistic, but the Democrats don't have a prayer here. Joel Hefley is too much of a legend down there. I don't know why. Besides, Colorado Springs is a bastion of Christian conservativism.

1. I agree with your assessment.. |

Districts 1 & 2 should stay Dem with DeGette and Udall. An important piece will be whether they can get out the vote for Kerry and Salazar. District 3 would be a great pickup for John Salazar since McInnis has won pretty handily. Votes for John would certainly be votes for Ken Salazar and for Kerry. A big turnout across southern Colorado and in urban Hispanic areas could turn the tide. District 4 would be fantastic if Stan the Man could win. I thought he had a good shot at it last time. He needs a big turnout on the Front Range and in the college towns, I think. The small towns on the plains will be big-time Musgrave places. (Against their own best interests...) District 5 will always be Joel Hefley. He is the most senior member in the delegation and he brings home the bacon since he is on the Armed Services committee. He is not a COMPLETE Republican hack and I have to admit he serves those constituents pretty well, even though I disagree with them on almost every issue. Upsetting Tancredo and Beauprez in districts 6 & 7 would be awesome! Apparently, the change in registration in District 7 has been hugely Dem, so Beauprez may go!

3. We won't get the fifth. |

There is no way for Hefley to be ousted. The others may be a different story.
