The PUC is supposed to keep utility rates, like heating bills, low. This is perhaps the most important government position in CO.
Nothing is more important to Coloradoans than high heating bills. Yet talk radio and television barely mentions this appointment. Doug Dean is a free market man. Although the PUC often rubber stamps Xcel's requests for rate increases, they do resist some rate increases. But no more, the rubber stamp will be firmly in the hands of a man who belongs in a rubber room.
Doug Dean's legacy:

"A frantic 911 call from the girlfriend of Colorado House Speaker Doug Dean appears to reveal a panicked woman pleading for help.
"Gloria Sanak called 911 after she said that Dean broke into her home. The out-of-breath Sanak told the dispatcher that "I had kicked out my boyfriend and he broke in one of the windows and he was waiting in the house when I got there."
"The day after the incident, Sanek obtained a temporary restraining order, writing in a sworn affidavit that Dean was holding a screwdriver when she encountered him in her home. She wrote that he "chased" her down the street to her neighbor's house."
"Sanek is a lobbyist who works with state lawmakers that Dean oversees."
As Colorado house speaker, many might recall that Dean's antics infuriated many Democrats.
Dean was term-limited and was appointed to Commissioner of Insurance. Yes, Doug Dean was litterally "in bed with the insurance industry." Good old republicans--what a mess.
