Republican Senate candidate Bob Schaffer on Monday accused Democratic rival Ken Salazar of flip-flopping in his support for the war in Iraq.
Speaking before the Larimer County Republican Breakfast Club, former Fort Collins congressman Schaffer said he remains supportive of the war effort and called the United States "far safer" with Saddam Hussein removed from power.
Salazar has long supported the invasion, but the Colorado attorney general reportedly now says he would have withheld that support had he known about holes in U.S. intelligence.
Forecasted stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction have yet to be found in Iraq, and the insurgency has been stronger than some in the Bush administration and Congress expected.
