the city's efforts to clean the streets will most likely result in an outflux of these persons into other areas of the city.
that will suit the city govt just as well as putting them in shelters - as long as Denver looks nice and spiffy for the convention, I'm sure our mayor and his council could give a fuck about the plight of the homeless. Most of those restaurants our mayor owns are down in lodo - it's win/win for him!
why worry about shelters? there are plenty of foreclosed houses and empty storefronts for the homeless to crash in! out of sight, out of mind.... :sarcasm:
there have been more homeless people in my neighborhood (Baker/S. Broadway), along with increased gang activity, in the last year especially.

3. That's what I figured. On two different occasions in the last week, I've seen |

patrol cars parked just down the street from the Park Ave. shelter. And, the usual numbers and activity of those who are utilizing the shelter seem to be way down.
I was checking in, because I've also witnessed a couple of law enforcement interventions that seemed a bit heavy handed for the situation.
Disgusting that the Democrats would just sweep people under the rug, the homeless people in this city should be front and center for the convention, not rousted and removed.
Dems, can we PLEASE talk poverty???

4. I don't blame the Democrats, per se |

I blame the city govt, and the citizens who put them in office - most of them who can't be bothered to participate in local politics. Turnout for the runoff that put Hick in office, along with 10 of the 13 city council members back in 2002, was only 20%.
This convention is going to show the rest of the country what Denver really is - a cowpie on the prairie, a small town run by incompetents, put there by a citizenry far more interested in providing the Bronco's a place to play than in dealing with the City's real problems - a disastrous economy, gangs, homelessness, poverty, etc.
The Denver police have always been heavy handed. Shootings by the police rank, per capita, in the top 5 nationally. It's the western mythos - shoot first, ask questions later.
