Looking for work in the Denver/Boulder area.

I'm an educated, hard-working man and I can't find a job. A few years ago, a botched surgery sent my life into chaos, and I'm still having a hard time putting things back together. I'm looking for an entry-level position, or a sales position, and I can't even get an interview. The years-long gap in my resume is a huge problem.

So if anyone here knows someone who is hiring, please let me know.

1. If you don't mind working for peanuts,

try the various library systems around the area. I shouldn't tell you this because I'm looking for a library job, but both CU Boulder and the University of Denver post jobs regularly, as do various local counties. The benefits at both the county and university levels are usually pretty good, and may compensate for the low wages. Check out the State of Colorado Library Jobline if you're interested. DU only posts their jobs on their web site, so check that out, too.

2. Sorry to hear you're having trouble finding work.

When I did a career transition many years ago, I used temp agencies to work my way into the corporate world.

You have to know how to type (the faster and more accurate the better) and if you know 10-key by touch it'll help as well, but the main thing is to try to maintain as positive an attitude as you can, regardless of how shitty the assignment is that you get sent to.

The more 'glowing reports' you get from your assignment supervisors, the better (and longer, better paying) assignments you end up getting.

3. Did you try the Census - the Feds are now hiring

That could at least fill the gap and show employment or maybe even turn into something full time.
