How vulnerable are the state's Congressional Delegates?

Most of them have been in for a while - Nancy Johnson, Chris Shays & Rob Simmons (the JR member) for the bad guys and Rosa DeLauro and John Larson for the good guys.

Do any of their challengers have a chance this November?

Shays & Simmons at least seem respectable opposition, as opposed to the wing nuts that dominate other states outside the Northeast.

I'm in Hartford County, so I don't know Shays' district too well, but they have a history of moderate Republicans with him and, previously, Stu McKinney. I can't imagine him losing unless some heavily financed winger comes along and beats him in a primary.

1. Larsen and DeLauro are safe. They have consistantly....

recieved at least 64% of the vote.

Last time around, Larsen got 64% and DeLauro 67%.

We have a strong challenger, Mayor Diane Farrell (Westport) to Chris Shays :puke:!

It is very possible that we will win at least one of the three seats that the Rethugs control. Nancy Johnson is safe because she is in the more conservative Litchfield County.

of moderation. There are some of the crazy-right in CT, but not too many. They may very well support Bush and their tax cuts, but they tend to take a more moderate stand on social issues...

But I'm just starting to do some work in that corner of the state -- it's an interesting place.

Currently, Mr. Bush is trailing Kerry by 25 points.

He beat little known Joe Courtney last time only 54-46 - if a bigger name runs, could he be beaten? Is there a Dem Mayor down there at all?

At least I can vote against him when I move from the 1st to 2nd district next month.

I'd take Shays over 90% of the Reps in Congress.

5. Simmons was part of the CIA assassination Phoenix program in Nam

he beat one of the best progressives in Congress (Sam Gejdensen - a Jew born in a diisplace persons camp in Europe whose family were farmers) using an anti-Indian platform.

Simmons is very personable and seems - on the surface - very decent. But he was planted there to GET Sam out and the gambling/corporate lobby (Bush etc) who want him in place will fight like hell to keep him there (they wasnt the casino concessions as well as the political donations and ultimately control of wireless internet offshore revenues from handheld slots etc run from Indian casinos)

That was also Rowlands job )to get the concessions for the repugs)

I know little about THE CONTENDERS BUT HE MIGHT BE BEATEN WITH A KERRY COATTAIL

now Sam was a good guy but he in the end Ailented a vary big group of Voters for the 2nd Distric that is Electric Boat Workers.

Well all i see in the bathrooms and most the talk when it is polical is Simmons has got to Go.
not many of the people that i know who i believe care anouth to vote will be voteing simmions come Nov.

8. I don't think he can feel too secure

He hasn't been there long enough to really get settled in. And those races were always close.

I think Johnson and Shays are in for good, as are DeLauro and Larsen. But I think there's hope for Simmons' seat.

10. the 2nd district always been the tightess races

i remeber when Muster Always Ran vs Sam the Man.

Sam never realy blew him away and Simmons did not win his two Races so far by that big of a margan compared to some of the other races in the area.

I say the 2nd Distric Leans for the most part Democrat there is some Rural area's that are Republican leaning and alot of Christan Right it seams in this Corner of the state compaired to the rest of the state but i think thats manly the milatary Influx we get that the rest of the state does not get.

I am in Gales Ferry. I agree about the influx of temporary residents at the Naval Base. A lot of them are Southerners. But this district is still Democratic.

Personally, I haven't decided who to support yet.

I hoped Joe Courtney was going to pull it out last time. He ran an excellent campaign. He chose not to run again this time; not sure if he's retiring from politics entirely. He is from Vernon, which I think wasn't even part of the district until that election, so that didn't exactly help his name recognition!
