Could our state Democrats f*ck up an more? |
|
No wonder we haven't won the governorship since 1986!!!!!!!!
First, Gov. Rell & state Republicans flip-flop and go for all out full public financing of campaigns. Beautiful, wonderful. However, when push comes to shove, the Democrats bail on one of the big issues they have been pushing for years. All talk & no action, it looks like. Rell really played them politically and made them look like chumps.
Second, they call a special session to work on other issues and don't put the public financing on the friggin' agenda??? WTF? They just took Rell being the corrupt John Rowland's right hand woman off the table in the governor's race in 2006 by quashing talk of campaign finance reform and now they make Rell look like an angel & the Democrats like bad guys.
I'm embarrassed to be a Democrat this week. Rell made our state legislators look like chumps.

1. Don't forget...the snuck a provision to exempt their own e-mails from FOIA |

I agree...after a short spurt of what appeared to be some serious gains for us, with good legistlative victories which will help the state, they get the front page for this quakery. I AM embarrassed to be a CT dem today.

3. Democrats or Republic-rats? |
|
I've been disturbed with our Democratic majority ever since they wimped out on same sex marriage. Why are our Democrats behaving like Republicans? Now,they want to hide emails? Don't want public financing of campaigns? What happened to their concerns about our civil liberties. While I will never vote for a Republican, next election I will probably watch a movie or stay home and read a book. I am tired of this and very frustrated. Democrats have made Jodi Rell look like a saint when she was John prisoner Rowlands #2 in charge. What a joke!

4. hey there -long and ranty |

Sorry I haven't been around. I've doing some traveling during the last part of session and I'm currently off line until :banghead: SBC says so.
I've haven't been following the fiance reform issue but here's a rant that I hope is somewhat insightful.
I was surprised during the budget talks during the last week when it was actually looking like there wasn't going to be a special session. It's been how many years since the legislature could bang out a budget on time? The day before the end of session the Dem's fenagled getting around the spending cap with the Farmland preservation issue. I'm not making judgment either way, but the result was a lot of pissed of Repukes. Did this have an effect on the campaign fiance reform issue? I haven't the foggiest. But as the saying goes there are two things you don't want watch being made and that's sausage and legislation. There was a lot of tit for tat going on this session.
I know negations on the budget have been tumultuous at best. With all new leadership I think there have been major communication break downs in regards to the budget. Majority Leader Donovan is the shit, but I'm not the biggest fan of Speaker Amman. The legislature may have been better served by Rep Dyson, who knows? I'm no political scientist.
I've got a friend in the press core who isn't so sure Jodi will run again. It's a rumor so take it for what's it worth. My Mom's a politician and she agrees. Jodi can ride out on a "high note" and go back the behind the scenes where she seems to be more comfortable. Again who knows. This rant is to say that it's impossible to isolate one political issue from another on a state level. It's all shucking and jiving to a degree. The issues that get the strongest legs are the pet projects of the folks who happen to be in charge.
So few people vote in municipal and state elections that the politicians really aren't beholden to anybody. Unless more people get involved in the political system, bla bla bla as I preach to the converted. You would be surprised how many legislators go uncontested. It's quite the luxury when you don't even have to check in with you constituency every two years because you don't have someone saying that they can do a better job.
This post is horribly cynical and I apologize. Politics is both draining and invigorating. Keep up the fight people, keep up the fight.

The Republicans are in in deep doo-doo. If they run Nancy Johnson or Chris Shays, they risk losing a seat in Congress nationally for something that is no sure thing...
Thanks for your input, though.
And Amann put his foot in his mouth a few times.
BTW, was that a Freudian slip about fiance reform???

Not that she has been a bad Governor. Actually, for a Repuke she has been pretty good although I would much rather see a Democrat like Dick Blumenthal or Susan Bysiewicz as Gov. If Rell doesn't run, we have an easy win! Shays or Johnson wouldn't stand a chance. If spinless Democrats would have played it a little different, Rell wouldn't be able to beat anybody but thats another story!

7. You underestimate the power of the Dark Side... |
|
Shays or Johnson both would give most of the top Democrats in the state a run for their money, unless Dodd or Lieberman ran for governor. And, since Johnson is pretty conservative, she could generate national money... she is a Friend of Newt after all.
Heck, if we got a Democrat in the State House, we could re-district Simmons or Johnson out of existence using the DeLay precendent. Both Larson & DeLauro have pretty comfortable seats. Give them a Republican town or two each and Larson/DeLauro still win pretty handily and we'd force Simmons or Johnson into tougher races.

8. Indeed, it'll be very interesting to see how it will all go down. |

As I was writing this in the library, where I find myself again, Chavez asked me if I was writing a novel.
Oh Freud, your slip is showing, fiance reform very funny. :)
It's hard not to get frustrated with the two steps forward, ten steps backward thang. You're not alone. I have to run. See you in a few days, I'm off to NC for a wedding. Oh happy Father's Day. Be well

I'm new to DU and can't start a thread. A friend emailed me about a new Connecticut news website that seems very promising and I thought I'd share it with others from CT. http://ctnewsjunkie.com/
