How did Dems do in Connecticut overall? |
|
I don't see a lot of big Democratic wins, other than Jarjura in Waterbury winning as a write-in.
Middletown went from 8 year Democrat Dominique Thornton to a Republican... New Britain stayed Republican, despite Dems having a good sized edge in registration there... An independent won in Newington. My old town of Cromwell is in Republican hands, too, as is my current town of Ellington, which went from Dem to Republican. South Windsor slipped over to the dark side as well.
On the good side, Ellen Marmer in Vernon won re-election, despite the Courant endorsing her opponent. And, I think Guilford was a pick-up for us as well.

1. Westport and Fairfield |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-09-05 01:16 PM by connecticut yankee
Westport went overwhelmingly Dem -- Gordon Joseloff won the First Selectman by a large margin (59% to 41%), replacing a Democrat (Diane Farrell, who would rather run for Congress). All Boards maintain a Democratic majority.
Fairfield re-elected the First (56% to 44%) and Second (55% to 45%)Selectmen -- separate ballots. Other races seem to be divided. The RTM, which runs on party lines, also appears to be divided.
Stamford re-elected Dan Malloy, a Democrat.

2. My town went all DEMS! |
|
:bounce:
I have Waterbury listed as my city in my profile b/c that's where I have a condo but that's not really the city I live in.
Anyway, the city that I really do live in went ALL DEMS! :toast:

did pretty well in my town. According the yesterday's paper my town is under "Democratic Control". We "trimmed the fat"! Was anybody shocked about Middletown? I really didn't keep on top of what went on there so my being shocked is unwarranted.

However, I heard Simmons on the radio last week about how his district swung from a slight advantage for Dems in town councils to a Republican advantage on town councils.
And, I think Dems in this state better wake up & get their butts in gear or they'll lose seats in the House & Senate.

6. Canterbury elected mostly Repukes, but the Dems have always been |
|
weak in that town. There is a third party in Canterbury that does is stronger than Dems in that town.
I don't know the full swing of town council seats in Eastern CT. Simmons could be just spinning again.

10. Seymour stayed Republican |
|
We had a strong candidate and we out-raised the Republicans by quite a lot ($21k vs $14k). And the current 1st Selectman is being investigated by AG Dick Blumenthal. He basically just lied his butt off and won. Boggles my mind.
Our problem seems to have been that the Dems just stayed home rather than come out to vote. Anyone have any good campaign strategies they can share that work on the local level in CT?

11. Seymour leans republican anyways. I was really upset about... |
|
the Eastern part of the state. How the HELL can they vote for Rethugs after what has happened this year?
Also, Coastal Fairfield County is Blue. No suprise about Westport. They are 60% Democratic. Nice for a wealthy town.
