Congresswoman Nancy Johnson Requests Meeting with Litchfield Land Trust |
|
I'm on the land trust board and we just got a request from one of Johnson's people for her to meet with us for a friendly chat. I emailed my fellow board members and said that to be fair, if we meet with Johnson we should also meet with her Dem challenger, Chris Murphy. Some board members immediately resisted my idea (how's that for open-minded?) but one emailed a message to all that there is a damning piece in the Litchfield County Times re: Johnson's environmental record in Congress. This board member suggests that perhaps Johnson is making her first-time request to meet with us as a campaign ploy (duh!). He wonders if maybe her PR people will come along for a photo op when she drops by our board meeting.
Meanwhile, two letters from Repubs in the local Litchfield paper trashed Chris Murphy. There appears to be a coordinated effort to get Chris out of the way early on.
Is anyone else getting these requests from Johnson's office?

1. At least it's good to know Johnson's people are |
|
taking Chris seriously.
I hate to lose him as my senator, especially since it looks like my LOSER state rep. might be his replacement.
But, boy! wouldn't it be great to unseat Nancy Johnson!

2. I agree, it looks like Johnson is worried about Chris since she's doing |
|
outreach so early and getting her troops out to trash Chris in March when no one is really that interested (except people like you and me).

3. She usually seems pretty complacent |
|
I'm sure all of the CT GOP members are feeling the weight now of their Bush associations. He's not a really popular guy up here, lol.
And Chris is a determined campaigner. I was sure the LDS guys had lost someone and sent only one when I saw a nicely dressed guy walking down our street. But it was Chris, walking house to house to chat people up and personally ask for their vote. I think he impressed a great many people with that.

It would be nice to have a Democrat in the State House for the first time since the 80s!!!!
Realistically, Simmons is the most beatable, though I think Shays & Johnson are vulnerable, too.

8. Did anybody respond in defense of Murphy? |
|
Or at least write LTTEs bashing Johnson and/or in support of Murphy on other topics?

11. Chris Murphy said there were a lot of "attack" letters to ed that week & |
|
all said basically the same things. Here's what was written in Litchfield paper (Enquirer):
“..Sen. Chris Murphy…has been accepting contributions from health-care interests, health-care lobbyists and other special interests while the legislature is in session…his practice... is only legal due to a loophole in state campaign finance la...also collected contributions from trial lawyers...one and only elected official in the state legislature accepting tens of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions while the legislature is in sessio... criticizing Nancy Johnson for accepting legitimate contributions from health-care execs.” (Peter Gay, Litchfield Repub)
Another said Chris “is promoting his candidacy…by using negatiuve stories on his website from people who have signed up for the new prescription drug benefits plan...Mr. Murphy is gearing up for another negative political campaign and using scare tactic...” (Edgar Auchinclosss, Litchfield Repub)
