City Dems endorse DeStefano, LamontNEW BRITAIN - The Democratic Town Committee has unanimously endorsed candidates in the Aug. 8 Democratic primary for governor and U.S. Senate.
New Haven Mayor John DeStefano won the nod from the 51-member committee to become the gubernatorial nominee.
"DeStefano's early support for universal health care and calls for meaningful property tax relief are compelling reasons for majority support by the Town Committee," said DTC Chairman John McNamara.
The Town Committee also unanimously endorsed the candidacy of challenger Ned Lamont in his bid to unseat incumbent Joseph Lieberman.
"Ned Lamont has demonstrated that he will reflect the views of rank-and-file Democrats on a range of issues, including Iraq policy, energy and health care," said McNamara. "Senator Lieberman's concessions to the Bush Administration and the Republican Congress do not serve us well in New Britain."
