Is Schlesinger's "casino" performance getting him votes? |
|
Yesterday in my phoning for Ned, I encountered a DEMOCRAT who said he was voting for Schlesinger! In all of my phoning -- mostly to Dems but also to Unaffiliated and a few Repubs -- not one identified Schlesinger as the guy they were voting for! A campaign worker commented that she though Schlesinger's debate performance would win over some Repub. votes and taking away from Lieberman. She was aghast when I told her about my phone conversation.
My consolation was that I talked to one undecided (most people I call are NOT undecided altho several said they wouldn't disclose who they were voting for) who started out saying she hadn't made up her mind. When I began my spiel for Ned she warmed up to him and by the end of the conversation she said she probably would vote for Ned.
My argument to undecideds? It's this: "Staying with the same-old, same-old in Washington won't get us anywhere. We lost 10 American servicepersons yesterday, it is not getting better. And it will continue to get worse if we don't vote for a change." And also: "Joe used to live in my neighborhood and up til a few years back you could see him around, jogging and going to shull on Saturday morning. Now he's moved out and just has some condo downtown, which is really a mailing address since he's never around. He likes the big life in D.C. He's left us behind."
I hope I changed one mind for Ned yesterday. I'm going canvassing for him in East Haven this Saturday. Report to follow.
