Chris Dodd: American enigma? |
|
Nutmeggers, how would you encapsulate the career of Chris Dodd?
I've been living in Connecticut for eight years; before that, I was in New Jersey, which isn't that far away (it only looks like Mars :)). Sign-peeping over the last few days, I've seen exactly one Dodd sign in somebody's yard, vs. up to 50 for Kerry/Edwards, Jim Sullivan, and local people.
And it occurs to me that I don't really know anything about Dodd. Usually senators from the Northeast, I can at least identify them with an issue or a cause (Bradley, tax reform; Kennedy, health care and judicial issues; D'Amato, perjury). Dodd has been there a quarter of a century, and I can't oversimplify his career because I don't know what his career has been all about.

He's in the Kerry mold of being a consensus builder & person that works behind the scenes.
However, I know he is one of the leading experts on Latin American issues (he was on the evening news a lot when Haiti was in the headlines...)
Not sure what else, though.
