With a veto-proof majority in the legislature... could the Democrats |
|
pass a new law that allows for the legislature to appoint a replacement if a Senator leaves office, instead of having it appointed by the governor.
Then, turn around and impeach Lieberman instead of voting on censure?
Lieberman leaves office and the legislature then appoints Rosa DeLauro or John Larson to the Senate?

1. They might be able to change the senate succession laws, |
|
But I don't think they can give themselves the right to appoint senate successor.
Better they should put in a requirement for the seat to be filled via special election(as my state did after Frank Murkowski appointed his daughter to his old Senate seat). That's achievable.
Also, it's probably time to be looking in any case to recruit someone to challenge Joe when his seat comes up again.

people are playing coy but lining up. (Nobody wants to commit until they know who else is planning a run though.)
