Lamont? Malloy?
Which is your choice, and why?
My sense is that either would be a good choice. It's the enviable position of having two good options. But I'd like to hear some opinions.

Malloy is DLC and Lamont to me has the better ideas.
I think either would be far better than any of the Republicans.

2. I'm planning to vote for Malloy as of now. |
|
I like them both and wish they had decided to run together. I like the fact that Malloy has been the CEO of one of our largest cities - one that is doing well, AFAIK.

he took on Lieberman. I also know Malloy a bit less. But both would be very good Governors.

4. I don't know anything about Malloy. |
|
I will watch the debate and see how he does.
I am really turned off by all the negative campaigning coming from all sides.

on the primary candidates http://newcanaandems.info/Lamont and Malloy are both good candidates, but I'm voting for the one with the proven track record - Malloy

6. I was a volunteer for Lamont in 06 but I am leaning Malloy now. |
|
It's not because I don't like Lamont any more. I do like him and his ideas. But I have a sinking feeling that this will be another Weicker situation: a good guy who comes in as governor, gets a progressive income tax passed, and then is so unpopular that he is essentially a sacrificial lamb. And who gets in after him? John Rowland, a corrupt Republican!

7. I'm supporting Lamont. because I want a Democrat in the governor's mansion next year. |
|
1) Ned has the funds to compete 1-on-1 against Tom Foley in the general election. Since the courts recently ruled that CEP candidates can't get extra funding to match non-CEP candidate's spending, Malloy would end up with a $3 million general election budget against a $25 million one for Tom Foley. The state legislature won't be able to pass a CEP fix this year and Gov. Rell will make sure to nix anything that can help the Democratic gubernatorial candidate, who is on CEP. If Malloy ends up winning the Democratic primary, the Dems will lose the governor's office again.
2) We need a governor who will think "outside the box" and who has not promised everything including the kitchen sink to people in exchange for their support, like Malloy has. The state legislature is full of special interest politicians. It would be nice if the governor wasn't like them.
3) Malloy distorted his record on job creation. He boasts that he created 5,000 jobs, but the Hartford Courant found that most of them were created using state taxpayer funds and had started under Gov. Lowell Weicker. The Courant also found out that during Malloy's full tenure as Mayor, Stamford lost 13,000 jobs. Malloy doesn't take the responsibility for them, but if he's going to take credit for the 5,000 jobs that he didn't fully bring to Stamford, then he should also share some of the blame for the job losses.
4) It took the current Republican Mayor of Stamford via a regular audit to discover that 2 employees who worked under Malloy and were cited as "employees of the month" and had their pictures taken with Malloy had been embezzling city funds. Why do we want a candidate who didn't know his own employees were thieves being governor?
5) Since Dan Malloy went negative and divisive with TV ads first, he broke his word from 2006, when he said he had learned his lesson (anyone remember the TV ad "DeStefano in a dress" ) and would not go negative in an attempt to win. He's demonstrated a "win at any cost" mentality and a lack of character by back tracking on his word and regurgitating Lieberman's 2006 lies about Lamont. And he had the gall to attack Ned for having 1 racial discrimination case brought against him in the 25 years he ran his company, but Malloy doesn't mention the 55 cases of racial discrimination brought against Stamford during his tenure as mayor.
