I will accept any eatery but I'm looking more in the way of non-franchises or fast food joints, unless that really is your fave.
My vote goes to Roomba in New Haven.

1. I Waited in Several Places in the New Haven Area in the 80s |
|
but for the life of me I can't think of any traditional sit-down restaurants I would put in my Top 25. It may have changed since then -- I don't remember Roomba.
What New Haven does superbly is pizza, which would mean Pepe's and Sally's. And Ivy League atmosphere, which would mean Mory's. What the CT shore does well is lobster. I love "The Place" somewhere around Guilford(?), which is an outdoor place which serves grilled lobster, corn, and beer. So although I'm sure there lots of top-rated rates in Stamford County, I'd have to vote for those other places, even though they might be dives.

is called "The Place" and it's a great place! My dad used to take me there all the time when I was little. You sit on stumps, and the tables are made of huge stumps. Closed in the winter though, obviously.

For Chinese food in the Hartford area, my wife loves Szechuan Garden in West Hartford. Since she spent the first 29 years of her life in China, I'll take her word for it that it's much more authentic than most. China Pan near West Farms is pretty good, too. We both also like East Buffet in Hamden, which is right off of Exit 60 off of Rte 15.
A good sign is that all 3 places usually have a majority Chinese clientele, or at least a good portion.

OK, brain freeze..my brother in law has a cousin who runs a small group of Italian places that are magnificent, but I am having a hard time remembering the name of the restaurants.
In Hartford and its environs, ..drat. I will have to look that up and get back to you...

found out about it ..my sister took us there to eat last summer.
We really liked it, esp the hot eggplant salad, which Annie made special for us..normally it isn't available for lunch.
My daughter still moons over that dish!!!

It's good and all but I like ketchup, mayo and mustard on my burger and that's not allowed at that place.
