Energy giant BP has stepped up efforts to distance itself from Delaware after a top state official called for denial of a federal permit to build a proposed $500 million liquefied natural gas terminal across the Delaware River from Claymont.
In a letter to the Federal Regulatory Commission, BP Crown Landing LLC disputed a claim the company "acknowl- edged" Delaware's jurisdiction over portions of the terminal.
The declaration was filed as New Jersey continued to work Friday on what officials there said will be a challenge in the U.S. Supreme Court to Delaware's authority over the project.

Company officials said recently that they hope the Federal Regulatory Commission, which oversees natural gas pipeline and LNG terminal projects, will rule on the project by August or September.
NOTE: FERC only has the final say now because our Congress gave it to them last month when they ok'd Bush's Energy Bill. Full steam ahead rolling over states' rights!http://www.delawareonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050709/NEWS01/507090322/1006/NEWS
