Relocation to Rehoboth Beach area? |
|
We can barely stand it here in Ohio anymore - with the ridiculous RW attitudes and ever increasing snowfall (global warming isn't a problem?) any comments or suggestions?

Rehobeth Beach in general has a very open view towards the GBLT community and from what I was told has a nice size population of Green Party in the region.
But overall, Southern Delaware (anything below the canal) is pretty much what you find in your neck of Ohio. NASCAR is major since Dover has the international speedway and repukes have a stronghold in the political offices.
Fortunately North of the Canal has the larger population and we keep the state pretty dang blue.
I think you'll find Rehobeth to be a great community but you'll also find yourself sticking to that area and avoiding the more RW communities away from the ocean.
Oh, and the state is tax free!

Also - if i may ask - are the winters fairly mild statewide (i.e. little snow? - we have been getting hammered, more every year), how is the job market for web designers/multimedia and garden design (yes we are creatives - pay has declined 33% since * has been in office), if you know. .....BTW - is that Robert Plant? Thanks again: hi:

Tech jobs are, without a doubt, better in above the Canal because the bulk of the credit card industries and other tech jobs are located between Wilmington & Newark. Rehobeth is geared towards one main thing and that is it's beaches and I'm also impressed with how they reach out to the GBLT community in that city.
YOu will get hit with 1 or 2 bad snowfalls a year but then it'll be pretty normal. I've lived in this area all of my life and one year we'll get overwhelmed with snow and then the next year we might get one blizzard and nothing the rest of the fall. This isn't Minnesota but it's not Florida either. Ironically the Delaware coast is the only east coast state not to be hit directly with a hurricane. I'm sure posting this will change our luck though.
Delaware is probably the only state with a True Yankee and Southerner feel to it and that mentality is divided by the canal that cuts across near the southern border of New Castle County.
I hope that helps
:D

Thanks again, you were very helpful - we were just visiting Rehoboth again last week and we love it - its not TOO big like Ocean City and other huge beach towns, but not desolate like some others tend to be. Everyone we've met from your state has been exceptionally nice, too. One lady left Minnesota 20 years ago - says she'll never go back. She says you really don't have winter as we know it, but lots of fog instead. NASCAR - what can I say, my dad is a big fan. B-)

any odd things one should know about purchasing real estate in Delaware
Well, there's not as much of it as there is anywhere else. The only "odd" thing is that Delaware *requires* an attorney to be present at closing.
We *do* have an admission test, though.
First, you must spell 'Rehoboth', which you have already passed, and LynneSin has failed. Always remember, "there's a hobo in Rehoboth". Don't say it if you have a cold, because it will sounds as if you are trying to state the other obvious fact about Rehoboth. (just kidding, don't shoot me)
Other items on the test include:
1. At which intersection did the Dairy Queen used to be? (you will score bonus points if you say it was right near where the Putt-Putt used to be)
2. Pronounce "Newark", "Loockerman", "Leipsic", and "Hockessin".
3. Name three fibers invented by DuPont. In fact, pronounce "DuPont" the name of the company (bonus points for the full name), and then pronouce "DuPont" as if you were referring to someone in the family.
4. Where is "The Christmas Weed?"
5. Fill in the blank. "Wilmington, a place to _______ somebody"
(a) meet (b) beat (c) greet (d) eat (e) none of the above
6. Grotto or Nicola?
7. The News Journal headline says, "Missing Bear Man Last Seen On (your street)". If you see him, you should:
(a) find your shotgun (b) call the circus (c) give him directions home (d) be glad you live in Metroform
(Shhhh... yeah, I know... it's a trick question)
