Hillsborough Dems sling mud
So we knew the Hillsborough County Republican Party reorganization meeting next week would be interesting, with chairman David Storck choosing not to run after taking heat for an e-mail he sent days before the Nov. 4 election that was decried as racist.
Now it appears the Hillsborough Dems are gearing up for some drama when they hold elections on Monday. A series of e-mails among party activists devolved into personal attacks after Precinct 565 Committeeman Chris Brown sent a missive to credentials chair Jackie Beiro saying he planned to run for vice chair of the Democratic Executive Committee.
Beiro replied with a thanks for the introduction and then went on to say "I'm African-American" and that the two had already met at a Democratic party function where Brown mentioned his wife while "several white girls" were "hanging/rubbing all over you; an image I didn't quickly forget because you/your reputation with the ladies." Beiro asked Brown "off the record" if he had thought of that when filing to run as an officer of the party.
Brown replied to Beiro: "I am also an African American, but I do not feel it is necessary to point it out in my e-mails," explained that the woman showering affection on him that night was his wife and said Beiro's attacks strengthened his resolve to run. He forwarded the exchange to the party's e-mail group in the interest of "extensive transparency. Secrets are for Republicans and conspirators," he wrote.
That prompted another group e-mail from party activist Sara Romeo, who accused Beiro of slander, bullying and being an "overbearing, irresponsible and just plain mean woman."
Stay tuned for the next episode of As the Democrats Turn (On Each Other).
