SANFORD - Seminole County Judge Ralph Eriksson is expected to testify today at his trial.
The state agency that polices judges has charged him with putting two men in jail without good cause and being dismissive of litigants who didn't have lawyers.
Today is the second day of Eriksson's trial before a six-member panel of the Judicial Qualifications Commission, the Florida agency that investigates judges when they're accused of wrongdoing.
Eriksson , 61, of Longwood, has been a judge for 13 years. In written filings, he's said he never knowingly did anything wrong.
Commission General Counsel Michael L. Schneider today told the panel that Eriksson is known around the Seminole County Courthouse as "King Ralph."
Two years ago Eriksson jailed a 47-year-old Sanford man after the defendant rejected a guilty plea -- something Eriksson thought he was about to enter -- and instead asked for a hearing to challenge the evidence against him.
