TAMPA — Public housing agencies in the Tampa Bay area are getting a huge boost to their budgets from the federal economic stimulus package.
More than $14.5 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has begun to flow to the area. The Tampa Housing Authority is getting the most, with $10.5 million allocated for upgrades such as landscaping, paint, floors, doors, windows and roofs.
The Pinellas, Clearwater and St. Petersburg housing agencies are getting about $1.3 million each.
Housing officials say the money is a huge help after years of federal budget cuts.
