Broward Dem senator Jeremy Ring calls on state party chairman to resign
By Anthony Man November 3, 2010 01:55 PM
In the aftermath of the Democrats’ dismal showing in this week’s elections, state Sen. Jeremy Ring, D-Parkland, said Wednesday Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Karen Thurman should resign immediately.
“The Democrats got trounced. We have no bench. We’ve got no succession plan for Karen Thurman. There’s no one that we can point to that’s the future of the party for the state. We’re at ground zero. We need new leadership if we’re ever going to get back to permanence,” he said.
Ring said he’s not interested in the job himself.
“I’m not offering myself up,” he said. “What I would like to do is I would like to help be a leader in the party in recruiting new candidates, new leaders into the party.”
Thurman didn’t appear likely to heed Ring’s call, at least based on the response from her communications director, Eric Jotkoff.
“Chair Thurman is focused on personally thanking everyone who volunteered at our Campaign for Accountability offices across Florida, the grassroots activists and elected leaders who worked so hard to make the Sunshine State a better place to live, and all of the Floridians who contributed to the Florida Democratic Party over this last several years today.”
