How do we start a PAC in order to get a ballot initiative on the 2012 ballot to require merit pay |
|
for state legislators?
This is an absolutely serious question. I think we need to craft an initiative to put on the 2012 ballot that would allow some form of citizen control over salaries of state legislators.
Is there anyone who knows how this could be accomplished? It would likely pass with flying colors. If merit pay is good for teachers, why not the state legislators who are pushing it? Is there an organization who could push this? Florida PIRG? League of Women Voters? ACLU? Anyone?

1. That makes so much sense. They will fight it tooth and nail. |

If the legislature is such a big fan of "merit" pay, then they would jump at the chance to implement it for themselves. Of course, it is still not fair to teachers because the legislature is in control of their actions to a much greater degree than teachers are in control. Teachers are at the mercy of federal, state, and local boards. Also, teachers have no control over the students they teach. If the politicians were serious about merit pay for teachers, they would simply base it on how much the teacher personally achieves. Just like a doctor, lawyer, or accountant is able to earn National Board Certification a teacher can also prove effectiveness through a similarly rigorous process.
