Need information on Florida's age of consent.

Can any Floridian confirm what the age of consent is now, or was in 2008-2009? When I google it, I find "16/18", with a note about a pending change in the law.

It sounds fairly weird, I know, to worry about this information, and hopefully getting it within the next 2-3 days!

I'm writing a review on a novel in which it's a major plot point. I need to know whether the author got his facts right, or just tossed it in off the top of his head.
