Alvin Brown has made job creation the centerpiece of his campaign to be Jacksonville's mayor - and Monday he brought to town someone who could testify to his skills in that arena.
Former Vice President Al Gore, for whom Brown worked as senior adviser for urban policy, spent a few hours in Jacksonville Monday afternoon for a Brown fundraiser.
The event was closed to the media, but several attendees said Gore focused on the jobs issue, pointing to Brown's experience as executive director of the White House Community Empowerment Board, a $4 billion initiative designed to create jobs across the country.
That message resonated with the roughly 200 people who showed up for the $25 event.
