Today, Florida Gov. Rick Scott is expected to announce that he set up a fake Twitter account in order to extol his policies, values, appearance, personality and, more important, to counter what his spokesman, Brian Hughes, describes as “the ugly, unfair personal attacks and harsh criticisms” found on several anti-Scott Twitter feeds. The announcement will end weeks of speculation about Scott’s role in the account, @NotNotRickScott, which has posted tweets such as “It’s 9 a.m. somewhere. #LetsGetToWork,” “I gave up on Grey’s Anatomy two seasons ago,” “I’m high on a drug called Rick Scott!” and “Who needs a full head of hair when you have a full head of handsome?”
Convinced that no one could possibly have anything nice to say about the governor, let alone believe that, as one @NotNotRickScott tweet read, “My wife often calls me George Clooney by mistake,” many Twitter users quickly and correctly guessed that the governor was behind the account.
“Come on! This guy is OMG clueless! He has to be the real Rick Scott!” tweeted the actress Alyssa Milano, after @NotNotRickScott tweeted, “@Alyssa_Milano I loved you on Full House!” and “Alyssa_Milano is amazing in While You Were Sleeping.” Milano, of course, never appeared on Full House and is not to be confused with the Oscar-winning actress and While You Were Sleeping star Sandra Bullock.
