Any Neil Rogers fans out there?

To provide some background, Neil Rogers is a popular radio host currently working at the primarily sports broadcast network, WQAM 560 in Miami.

Rogers is definitely liberal, although he is often times critical of the Democratic Party. Rogers is openly gay, and made his name in the 1970's in opposition to singer Anita Bryant's crusade to overturn same sex protections from discrimination in Broward County.

Rogers, while only broadcasting locally in South Florida, has elevated his stature and makes approximately $1.2 million per year.

I recommend listening to his program simply for the news articles that he reads on a daily basis. It takes some time to get use to his abrasive style, but it's well worth it if you can listen on a daily basis.

1. This is why they hate America.

I listened to Neil when he was at WIOD,his show is something to listen to while doing something else.Talk radio now is blast-furnace doctrinal boot camp which would be funny but for the fact that it is taken seriously.The most reported career of the caller is truck driver.

I listen online to C-SPAN's Washington Journal which is an absolute train wreck of talking point cranks.Loveline has people call up and the hosts make fun of their problems and they wonder why only jokers call.Lionel is like that guy from Fantasy Island "Where is de plane,where is de plane".

Phil Hendrie proved that people will believe anything.The callers threatened his characters with horrible things which shows the seething rage this medium attracts.Liberal radio is like that Python skit where there is a penguin on the television,look at the mess the republicans cause-oh my what went wrong.They expect you to listen to them with digital radio and headphones with your eyes closed and a notepad.Keillor is a beautiful hothouse orchid of narcissism.

There is a tier of radio where mercenaries sell annuities or dental veneers and call the competition crooks which seems like a circular firing squad.Even the garden show takes questions that lead to the sales pitch.Art Bell is like a slasher movie and a morning show here reads directly from the Drudge Report.

There is no children's radio like television so they advertise refinancing and diet pills instead of candy and toys.Talk radio on the BBC is about the same but they pretend to be civil,Vanessa Feltz and Mayor Ken talk monthly which is a shark tank then they play some Right Said Fred.

2. I've switched to Stephanie Miller on AM 940

I used to listen to Neil religiously. He's gotten to where he sounds kind of board and his show just sounds like one big inside joke that's not funny.

I'm glad Neil's there and he's still able to connect with his audience. But Stephanie Miller and her crew have me constantly laughing out loud even while presenting lots of useful information about the right wing and their media minions.

My question is: How come when you leave West Palm Beach, there are no other liberal talk stations? Tallahassee, Gainesville, and Tampa could all support a progressive outlet. Hell, they've proven that it works everywhere including Cincinatti, Dallas, etc..

3. You have to listen religously

A problem is that you have to listen regularly to understand his jokes. He makes a lot of jokes about WQAM co-workers that go unnoticed unless you listen every day.

6. He's still on

On March 1, he celebrated his 31st anniversary on South Florida radio. Ironically, he departed for Canada a number of years back. I'd love to follow his lead if I got the money to move to the county north of here.
