I am moving to Naples in June
I am looking to meet up with fellow DU'ers there. I am not a sun and beach person and would rather spend my free time working towards promoting our shared progressive goals, especially with our very important 2008 upcoming election.

Can someone offer any suggestions?

1. My brother lives in Naples.
He is very liberal. He is a minister at a christian church there. I don't know if you would be interested.

2. I am assuming you mean Florida, and not Italy.
If the latter, though, boy can I point ya to some great restaurants!!!!!

Good luck in Naples--I'm betting your help will be greatly appreciated down there!

9. One of the most dangerous cities for cyclists.
I've ridden my bike from Miami to Naples (and back) a few times. Naples has the most damned dangerous drivers I've ever encountered. They have the road rage that Miami has, younger folks with nothing to do but race and get agressive with their cars, plus the rather aged demographic driving while blinded (by meds, bad vision, dementia, etc).

Oh.. a brief mention of the annual Red Tide that kills off the aquatic life and leaves dead fish and a high holy stench for miles, leaving the beaches putrid & useless.

Aside from that (if you can afford it, stand the oppressive summer heat and republicanism) Naples is a nice place. <--- :sarcasm:

7. hope you enjoy florida but
Naples and Collier County is very very right wing... Something like 66% voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004. The people are rich, stuck up, and snobby. You have my sympathies.

If you get sick of the attitude in Naples, I suggest you check out Fort Myers/Cape Coral, Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte, and Sarasota.

Much less right wing than Naples but still not what I would consider a democratic oasis. All those places still voted for Bush by decent margins.

11. Please don't encourage tinted windows.
It reduces side vision, especially at night. In Naples, one needs to see in all directions to avoid the other horrific drivers.
