Democrats offer detailed tax plan

TALLAHASSEE— House Democrats tried to rev up Florida’s plodding search for property tax relief and equity Wednesday by unveiling a detailed plan of exemptions linked to local median housing values or — for commercial taxpayers — indexed to inflation.

House Democratic Leader Dan Gelber, of Miami Beach, said it is similar in some respects to the latest proposal from the chamber’s Republican majority, which calls for percentage-based exemptions, because both would target relief to those who most need it.
