GA Governor calls for Aruba travel boycott

Gov. Sonny Perdue encouraged Georgians on Thursday to boycott travel to Aruba to protest the way officials there have handled the disappearance of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway.

Perdue joins Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Alabama Gov. Bob Riley in calling for a boycott of the Dutch Caribbean island.

"This boycott is necessary because Aruban authorities have failed to conduct a serious investigation" of the teen's disappearance, Perdue said. "We have no quarrel with good citizens of Aruba, but the actions of their leaders cannot be taken lightly."

11. It's really not all that great

Not very green. Sandy and dry. The geography is not self-sufficient. Everything (water and food) is shipped in.

Nice if you like windsurfing, vegging on the beach, or watching rich people show off in the casino. Some good little restaurants. But I can think of plenty of better cheaper warm places to go.

The one thing it does have going for it? Not as many Fox-watching red-staters as usual. :)

Exactly my point. It's freakin' ridiculous to call for this boycott. Can we boycott paying taxes here until all the unsolved crimes are solved? He's the worst of the political panderers in a state full of grandstanders. Simple Sonny is in real trouble, even with his own base, and he's doing any and everything he can to make it look like he's in charge.

I don't want to go to Aruba. It's about the last place in the Caribbean I'd want to go to, except that the stupid ass governor just said we shouldn't go there, so.........

So much for that golf trip we were planning down to Jekyll Island.

I can't say that I've ever met anyone who has talked about traveling there.

BTW, I agree with Cat. I'm very sorry those people lost their daughter, but you have to be a damn crazy parent to tell your teenage daughter she can bounce off to a foreign country to party!!!! That same damn thing could have happened here in Atlanta, or in Alabama where she lived.

There are missing teenagers in those states ergo they must not be investigating the disappearances. Like Aruba is worried about three states who have so few who can afford to go to Aruba. These states should ban divorce as Holloway came from a broken home <sarcasm>. I love the fact the twit mother is speaking to groups about teen trips.
