Majett won. Will she be able to win against Isacson? |
|
I'm not sure. I was hoping Oxford would win because I thought he had a better chance in Nov.

1. Her finances are not nearly as healthy as Isakson's. |
|
That will be an obstacle to her campaign. She also dos not have the name recognition that Isakson carries. He is popular in the rural areas of Georgia as well as the fundy Atlanta suburbs.
I wish there were more optomistic points for Majette. Perhaps someone else could elaborate?

how much do they want to win votes? Or is Majette just running to make a statement?

a man who wants to do away with Federal waiting periods and permits on firearms, and ban abortion? You're telling me Majette would somehow be a worse choice than this?

Although I didn't vote for her, I like her voting record and consider Majette the best member of Georgia's Congressional delegation...second only to John Lewis.

6. Of course I will vote for her! That's not what I asked! |
|
I want to know if she can win against Isacson. I didn't really like Oxford either, but I thought he might have had a better chance to beat the Pub.
I didn't vote for either of them in the primary, but you support the majority choice. I just don't want to give up a Dem seat in the Senate!

I was a new resident of Ga. then. I don't even remember who ran against him. I saw a few of his ads, and decided he was OK.
I don't think most Ga. Dems thought he would turn out to be what he is today.

9. this is why I consider primaries more important than general elections! |
|
I used to only vote for the candidate who I thought had the most name recognition, and the Democrat had the best chance of beating the Republican. In 2000 I voted for Zell Miller over Mack Mattingly, because better candidates, like Bobby Wood, were simply not a factor.
Now I ask myself who is the candidate I can trust to guard my finances, to fight back against the neocon propaganda machine, and to provide more than symbolic words of comfort to disheartened voters? Who would you trust to defend your back, because that is the only person worth voting for!

10. Do you think that is Majett this time? |
|
I realize she probably has the Atlanta vote, but I'm afraid she's going to have a difficult time in the outskirts. It's so important that the Dems get control of the Senate at least in 2005.
I will help her as much as I can, but I have only two votes (mine and my husbands), and I really don't have a lot of $$ to give her either.
If it be Majett or Oxford, I know they would do a better job than Zell did, or the fake Isakson.

18. Majette won over McKinney |
|
because of republican X-overs; she was more acceptable & less of a threat to the republican agenda.
that said, she is a centrist democrat, & i'll never vote for a republican.
i don't think she has any chance of winning over her confederate opponent Isakson.

Majette or Oxford, it will be a tough climb in November to reach the top. There were two ways to look at it yesterday from a strictly vote counting view. 1) For Oxford - (as much as you want to say it's not like this), there is no way the few remaining traditional white southern democrats outside of the metro Atlanta area are going to vote for a black woman, but these votes are few and far between, and Oxford's not a strong enough candidate to get them to the polls. 2) Majette barely has any name recognition outside her district and the metro Atlanta area. But if the GOTV efforts will materialize to get out the African American votes, and assuming that the majority of A-A will vote Democrat, they now have a good reason to go to the polls. Numbers wise, Atlanta can counter the rest of the state, and those few key districts can be enough to pull out a victory, but every single registered Democrat in the state has to go vote.
I hope this makes sense. I'll vote for Majette because she is now our candidate, but she wasn't my first choice ( or my second, or third for that matter). PM me if I need to clarify.

She doesn't have an R besides her name. Why doesn't he just shut the Zell up and leave us good little Democrats alone?

There's a reason that Georgia has never before nominated an African-American or a woman for the Senate. Still, it'd be nice to make it close.

There's reason to be optimistic about our Senatorial races in the South. Unfortunately, I don't see this being one of them. I could have envisioned Cain or Collins making this race competitive. Isaakson seems moderate enough to win the election comfortably.

And will say that Majette has a slim shot at winning this seat (I'm giving her this benefit of the doubt because she's one of my favorite candidates of this cycle).
What she'll have to do (aside from run a flawless campaign, which I doubt that Johnny Isakson will be able to do) is maximize the vote in Atlanta and the surrounding Democratic areas. If this area could get out the vote in larger numbers, she'd have a shot because it is such a Democratic area. This could be possible because she is the first African American candidate for a major statewide office in Georgia and she may arouse excitement (not to mention the current Kerry/Edwards momentum could bring in a few more votes). Additionally, she'll have to gain the votes of moderate Republican women. If she does win, there will have to be some more support from the DSCC (they currently aren't as focused on this race) and she'll have to start polling well soon to gain more donations. It's an uphill battle, but Majette is one of the best campaigners out there and would make such a fine addition to the Senate (especially after Zell) that I'm going to hold my breath and hope for the best.

19. This is a winnable seat |
|
African American registration has to increase and the Dems have to have a massive get out the vote effort in the metro Atlanta area, but in a 6-8 point Kerry national win this is a seat Majette can take. She'll need some money and the Georgia Democrats have to largely focus on metro Atlanta while making sure that Majette herself hits every African American church in middle and south Georgia, but don't write this seat off.

20. The trick here is to get people off their.... and VOTE! |
|
There's enough anger at shrub to got the Dems out the door, so I think there's a possibility for her to win.
We need to get everyone, Dems & Pubs to recognize that our gov't works better when there is a division between the Executive, Legislative & Judicial branches. That's most of what has caused all the problems we have now. It's all one party.
I doubt I'm the only one who feels that way. If we can convince even some of the Pub voters that this division is better for the country, Deniese can win.

22. No. But, I'll vote for her. |

I still pine for the days when you could punch once and vote straight Democratic.
Anyway, I was pissed off when she cost us McKinney when we needed her.
Now I'm pissed off that she's given her back to us. After Bush is gone in January, the GOP will be thrilled to start printing her photo on mailings again. And this will cost us more Jewish Democrats.
Majette has thrown her political career away and caused us big trouble, imo.
So, Flame me.

Her voting record aside, she's one of the worst people to represent us. I'm sure the right will have plenty of ammo to use against Democrats with Cynthia back on the hill. She's got a big mouth and she won't help us with moderates. I'm sure we'll both be flamed.
