Looking for historical info here, folks |
|
I'm in an argument on another message board with one of those nutjobs who claims Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Republican. Where would the voter registration records be found for voters in Atlanta(which is where Dr. King spent, IIRC the last fourteen years of his life?
Would those be at the Fulton County homepage, or with the State of Georgia?

1. Was voter registration necessary then? |
|
I know these days we don't have to do it.

3. I mean, here in Georgia we don't have to state party |
|
We also have open primaries.
If King was a Republican then that'd still place him way to the left of most pols today you should point that out. Nixon was like a Green compared to who we have with Bush.

Still, the 'Pugs won't stop repeating the "King was Republican" canard, as if it somehow proves that African Americans owe them support today. Is this something that even COULD be proved, one way or another? Was party affiliation required for voter registration in Alabama(where Dr. King was in the early 50's, as everyone knows)? Of course, this also begs the question of whether Dr. King was, in fact, ALLOWED to register to vote in those days.

5. Save the research effort he was a republican until 1964 |
|
when he went to the convention and saw that they niether supported civil rights of voting rights. I think he supported Nixon in 1960 and attended that convention as well. Good luck trying to find a voter registration card for him though.
