BRUNSWICK, Ga.—Police said a 21 year-old mother called 911 Tuesday morning and told the operator she had drowned her children before shooting herself. Glynn County Police said Julia C. Murray, 21, called 911 from her Baumgardner Road home just before 10:00 a.m. Police said she asked for an ambulance because she had drowned her kids, ages 2 and age 4.
During the call, authorities said at one point Murray did not respond to the operator’s questions, then came back on the line and told the operator she had shot herself. Officers and EMS arrived at the home to find Murray, unresponsive but breathing, with a gunshot wound to the chest. She died at the hospital.
Authorities found two children in another room. Police said a four year-old girl, Ansli Murray, was pronounced dead at S.E. Georgia Health System Brunswick Hospital Tuesday afternoon. Authorities said Murray’s son, two year-old Creighton Murray, was found alive and is in stable condition at the hospital.
Police said a gun found at the scene belonged to the family. The investigation is ongoing.
There are not enough details to understand the motives, but I just listened to the 911 tape and it was chilling to hear the mother calmly tell the dispatcher that an ambulance was needed because she killed her children (the younger one actually survived the drowning attempt).
I had to express my sadness somewhere...
