Counter Recruitment on PBS Hawai'i |
|
Aloha Hawai’i,
As I’m quite certain you’re all aware there is a recent federal calling for all schools to give up the names and contact information for all Military eligible students else face the possibilities of losing funding.
Ah yes, ladies and gentlemen, the No Child Left Behind Act sign by our favorite friend George ‘Dub-ya’ Bush on January 8th, 2002.
In response, Island Insights (a show in association with the Honolulu Star Bulletin shown on PBS Hawai’i) will be doing a show addressing the issues that Hawaii’s youth and parents face as well as what actions the community is taking to educate students and parents to the realities of the Military and War.
The show will have a panel discussion made up of representatives from the American Friends Service Committee, Veterans for Peace, and Iraq Veterans Against the War (You know who!) and hosted by Dan Boylan, A professor of history at the University of Hawaii-West Oahu Campus and writer of a weekly column for MidWeek.
Show will air on Monday October 17th at 6:30pm or 7:30pm on PBS Hawai’i. Watch it and let me know what you think.

daughter is going to college, opihi. My son is 38 and didn't go to college but has his own business on Kauai. He wouldn't have made very good fodder for the military..he has big issues with authority.

2. too bad NCLB limited to public schools |
|
Christian Academy on Moanalua Rd. should be full of young patriots. I was roped into a service at their church and it was so full of flags and colorguards and I thought I was at the Pentagon. NCLB should encompass ALL schools! Let's not leave behind the patriots hiding out in the private schools!
I bet the recruiters haunt schools in Nanakuli and Waianae etc.

6. The objective here ... |
|
... is to obtain EQUAL access to the schools as the recruiters (Minus the 4 Billion annual funding that is)...
so that we may counter all the BS the recruiters are pitching to the students.
Volunteers??
