Dis-disinformation campaign, just us and our printers against the dark. |
|
This election was 'won' with lies.
We still remember who had the * yard signs and bumperstickers. We HAVE to give our neighbors, coworkers, teammates, and classmates are, the true information.
Today I was standing in line at the bank and three sweet older local ladies were repeating * lies about Kerry as if it was God's own truth, finishing each others arguments. They were repeating false information. They never received the real story. ( I asked a few questions- without starting a fight. To get them thinking.)
Reflecting on that experience later I realized I had no peaceful way to give them what they needed- correct info, and the knowledge that they have been used to damage our democracy. Terribly.
We all talk to each other but we have to talk (write, leave info in mailboxes, on car windshields, in letters to the editor, in paid ads, ***get the newspapers that supported Kerry to do fact checking*****
Kerry was smeared and the smears are still believed.
* lied 24-7. If we let this wait it will seep into public "knowledge" base just like
Al Gore said he invented the internet, (shibai), even more than it already has.
More importantly they need to know that they have been lied to so they will be a little less bovine next time, with any luck.
Unlike F911 this is a disributed widespread action that requires many many hands. I feel it this is a time sensitive opportunity.
ALSO while we're at it is is imperative that we stay in touch as a network- all your email lists are extremely important organizing tools. Please save them!!!
The race for 2006 leg etc starts TODAY
With deep aloha

5. If you have a little time that would be awesome... |
|
It's midterms :0}
I was just going to say I respect their right to their opinion but I know they would want to be aware that the following memes are false, with proof. Thank you a thousand times if you are so inclined, and please please pass the idea, leaflet, inspiration along. This is a Malcom Gladwell kind of an idea. (Author of the often referenced "Tipping Point")
It's good to see you over here!
Much aloha

3. I don't mean to discourage your intent |
|
but the sad thing that we should all learn from this election is that faith-based politics is for real. Facts will not dissuade them until its their well-being that is directly affected.

but we can fight back if we learn to combat with similar phrases.
See right now they scream BABY KILLER. It's as if they are convinced that George Bush can stop abortions or something. Obviously, all George Bush can do is appoint justices to the supreme court who will affirm laws that CRIMINALIZE abortions.
But the pro-life movement is framing the debate as: Who do you choose, a president who is a baby killer, or one that will stop abortions? Most people will pick the one who will stop abortions.
We need to frame the question as: Who do you choose, a president who will make abortions safe and rare, or one who will throw mothers in jail and give mothers the death penalty for having a needed abortion? If you phrase it like that, at least we have a chance that they will choose the make abortions safe and rare option.
Do you see what I mean? We're not combating them slogan for slogan. This is a market driven socitey. The republicans are killing us with branding.
People don't think of the ramifications of making abortions illegal, because the republicans are pounding home the simple phrase "baby killers." But we are just freezing up and panicking that we are going to lose our rights, and we are OUTRAGED, instead of coming up with ways to combat the people who are trying to take our rights away with slogans.
The phrase "baby killer" is catching on. We need to combat that by reminding them that the alternative to legalized abortion is our own phrases like "COAT HANGERS" and "MOTHER'S THROWN IN JAIL."
You can't count on people thinking, you have to make them realize things with slogans. We're still not giving people a clear reason to choose us, instead of choosing them.
And they are branding us to death on all the moral issues, not just on abortion. On all the issues, they are beating us with branding, not just the moral issues, come to think of it.

7. Completely correct...what to do with that on a tactics level? |
|
On the tactics point I have another idea. While the bumperstickers and the yard signs are still up, give out invitations in your neighborhood to a "Heal the divide" houseparty. I will check with a meeting facilitator (rules are amazing!) and a mediator to find out what kind of ground rules the group must agree to. They can be called ground rules or common courtesies, to which the group must agree as a condition of staying for the meeting.
Some I know are:
no personal attacks (against individuals present- ok I added that part) Use common courtesy- no interruptions- let every person speak it's ok to disagree- use common courtesy focus on the problem, not the person stay on the subject listen with respect
and give them the concerns there. We are concerned that a majority of Americans are making critical decisions under the impression that they are informed when what they feel strongly is the truth is in fact lots of lies, here's the proof in writing, what about that? I am sure somone out there can tune this idea up into something useful. Please do! Copy, email, post in blogs, take credit if you like please, move this idea. Thank you DU!
oh shindig you are so right. Did you read George Lakoff's moral politics, how conservatives and liberals think? You nailed an important idea. That is reframing the concept, as Lakoff suggests reframing 'liberal' into 'progressive' Or something like that- couldn't sleep last night and am kind of crosseyed.

4. Might work in Hawaii -- but the dumb asses who voted for bush |

on the "Mainland" -- doubtful.
Ground Zero is a wonderful group in Washington -- they established a leafleting campaign near the then new submarine base in Bangor Washington.
In fact one of the support personnel working on the base collected each leaflet and filed them so that one day there would be a file in the archives.
I doubt that the effort of this group made any difference -- except perhaps to themselves -- the did the only thing that powerless people could do.
I've heard the most ignorant and stupid statements made about Kerry -- and upon doing some Internet research discovered that the corporate media repeated memes from the Rove slime machine.
Good luck!

8. Are they bovine or ovine? (that is, sheeplike) |
|
More importantly, how do we reach them? They can't all be as dumb as they seem, or else they'd drown in the rain like domestic turkeys :-)
Leaving info in mailboxes sans postage is a strict postal no-no. Oasis (retired postal carrier) would never approve. :-)
But hey, now that most of the political yard signs are down (we saw several holdouts in Kane'ohe on Sat.), could we get people (with yards, that is) to keep yard signs up all year (like more and more people do with Christmas decorations :-) ) with messages like "Bush Lied: Thousands Died"?
See, even though I couldn't be on Crashcart's welcoming committee :-) 'cause it was at eleven o'frickin' clock on a work night, I've still got your back (as we'd say back in N.Y.) Ask me about my plan for a "micro-radio network"...

9. I have one of those... |
|
..micro radio broadcast system... started with a small kit made transmitter (Ramsey Electronics) and antenna made from PVC pipe... I can broadcast about a half mile to a mile with it... also started using it in my business to deliver sound reinforcement to remote or spread out areas... (ho'olaulea's, regattas, crafts fairs, etc.)...
To be FCC legal, we need to broadcast at less than 1 watt, and the antenna can't be further than 10' from the tranmitter. (antenna length may have changed). Also if you intrude on an established frequency, you must change your freq immediately. The kit - had to change freq's via dipswitches on the PC board.
just recently ordered and received a professional quality 1 watt transmitter system and dipole antenna from the UK... five day delivery via FedEx.. system works great.. what a difference from the kit... also what a difference in the price..!! :-) used it for a fundraiser at the old Kula Hospital.. used the tranmitter to broadcast the program activities - live music, announcements, auctions and cd music so that all the bedridden patients were able to tune in and feel like they were a part of the event. pretty kewl..!!
when not on a job, I have it set up in my house... gets a range from indoors of about a mile... probably more if I were to mount it on the roof, but then I'd have to watch out for the black helicopters...!
because this is an open and public forum, I'll tell you how much I enjoy playing CDs and computer source audio and picking it up from every radio in the house, garage and yard. I've often wondered what someone would think if they were scanning the FM bands and picked up the broadcast... :-)
FWIW, I'm also preparing an application to the FCC for a low power 100 watt broadcast license.. long shot, but what the hey, hey... wish me luck...!
Aloha! :hi:
