15. You should be able to score Hawai'i food in LA: Do your own lu'au!

the area south of LA proper in particular has a large Hawai'i "expat" population: Carson, for example, has a renowned hula halau that has come very close to winning at our Merrie Monarch Hula Festival (coming again in April, and webcast).

Usually these kinds of areas (San Jose and Las Vegas (!) are others) have a "Hawai'i store" where things we take for granted that are foreign to you, like poi, and Keali'i Reichel records, are sold.

my contact at Hawai'i Comm. College (the only one NOT on probation :-) ) buttonholed me at the end of a two-day conference yesterday (that's what happened to me all week) and informed me that she was putting together another self-advocacy event (in which people with disabilities learn to speak for themselves and not through caregivers) that week.

Oh boy! Yet another 7 AM flight to Hilo... it better be during the week...
