| Why I Support Overturning the DC Gun Law |
|
well, now that it has happened at least. I propose we turn our fair city into a gun haven. no regulation at all. Seriously, could the crime be worse? as long as people can get all the guns they want in Virginia, the DC ban won't help, so I suggest we arm the populace.
I want to see lobbyists walking down Connecticut out my office window packing heat. I want every government motorcade to see people on the street carrying guns. I want George Bush to continue to insult the District at every opportunity, knowing that there is an armed population outside his bedroom window. We are a colony, routinely spit on by the rest of our fair nation. Let's take them up on it. I want the republicans in the position of saying "hey, we aren't safe with all these guns around" make them walk the freaking walk for once. they say guns keep the peace, great, let's make them go on the record as to why they need to be protected, but regular citizens don't.
What do you think? would Congress be nicer to us if we all carried guns?

| 2. forget concealed carry |

I want open carry. I want to stand in front of my office building, smoking a camel light, with an AK47 slung over my shoulder when Deadeye Dick drives by on his way home.
Please note that I am in no way encouraging the use of such weapons, and I wish no ill will towards anyone, including Mr. Cheney (although a nice war crimes trial would be fun) but the only thing these jackoffs believe in is power and violence, maybe the threat of that would help keep them in check.

That's what the 2A is about, that and protecting you and your family. The 2A is NOT about hunting!

| 6. Well, the owner of property can make that decision |

The Architect of the Capitol (who I think makes these decisions) is within his rights to say "no guns may be brought onto Capitol grounds". If he says that, he has the responsibility (which in this case he has met) of making sure it is enforced and providing protection for those who disarm themselves to come visit the Capitol.
The problem is, our city government has dictated that we must be disarmed, but has not provided adequate police protection to us. So, everyone in PG and VA (and all the people in DC with illegal guns) knows we're a bunch of unarmed potential victims. An even bigger problem is that the only solutions I've seen so far to this abridgement of our rights have violated the equally important principle of Home Rule. Sigh...

I think your post is provocative, but I agree that residents of the District of Columbia have already been provoked by paying taxes, sending soldiers to defend this nation all so we can be denied the right to vote.
It is pathetic that the two causes dear to George Bush - reducing taxes and bring 'democracy' to people in Iraq have no meaning to his fellow citizens on his plantation in DC.
