I guess Gov. Kempthorne has been bouncing checks |
|
A qualified source tells me that the Governor is in serious debt and has been bouncing checks around Boise. Including little things like hair cuts. I guess the family lives well beyond their means. On top of that, the Gov wants the State to buy the land surrounding the parcel that Simplot just donated to enlarge the Gov's estate/mansion. I guess Simplot has already stated that the additional parcels are not for sale but would consider trading them for grazing rights elsewhere in the State. Kempthorne said no, he wants the State to buy.
Source also tells me that staffers have witnessed several "breakdowns" as of late. I don't know if I should laugh or cry but this is the state of the executive.

1. This was a big story about a year ago |
|
Are you sure it's still happening? And if I remember right, it was his wife Patricia who was bouncing the checks. The good ol' gov gets his campaign account to pay for most things.
BTW, I saw Kempthorne at lunch the other day, and he didn't seem like someone on the edge of a breakdown.

3. Oh jeez I thought I had some juicy gossip |
|
I can't say if what he told me is a continuation or a repeat of the original hair cut story. As far as breakdowns, the guy is well placed and in a position to know. I seriously doubt he'd tell me that unless it was happening.

but Kempthorne is on his way out. A breakdown probably doesn't hurt or help us at this point. Butch "DUI" Otter is probably a shoe-in with his campaign fundraising and state connections (ranching, logging, big-business, etc.)

5. Not that he has a huge property tax bill |
|
Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 12:35 AM by Zambero
Each year he pays a whopping $5 plus change in taxes for his 14-acre Tamarack spread, while others of less means struggle to pay the taxes on their modest homes. As far as self-serving conflict of interest goes, Kempthorne was front and center in supporting this so-called "developers discount", which was passed by the GOP legislature quietly and without fanfare, mainly so nobody would take notice of the sweetheart deal the GOP legislators had cut for themselves and their cronies. Unfortunately for them however, word has leaked out and folks whose tax bills have gone up are mad as hell at these statehouse cheats. Now Kempthorne says he's opposed to this blatant corporate welfare scheme, as long as it doesn't go away any sooner than 5 years from now. Ha! Idaho has a comparatively large bloc of independent voters, and it seems like a good year for the Democrats to call the GOP to the carpet on their skewed and unfair tax policies.

he's delinquent on his $9.00 tax bill (assessed on hundreds of thousands of dollars of real estate).

7. Tamarak development has been a sham |
|
My father has several clients who have sought Tamarak property and described the bidding process for a lot near Tamarak. You pay a very large fee just to bid. When the bidding does start, you do NOT know which tract that you are bidding on, you simply bid for ANY tract. If your bid qualifies, the development company then tells you "this is your tract".
