Walt Minnick did himself no favors by resorting to the anti-illegal immigrant attack ads against his opponent. It only turned off Democrats and played right into right-wing hands by being one of their talking points, when he could have just stayed positive and maintained his comfortable early lead to victory. He was a corporate sell-out to begin with, so to many its not that big of loss to see him go, but he was moderate-liberal on social issues, more of a Libertarian, so now we have no liberal voice whatsoever in Congress. Great job, Walt.

And with Keith Allred, I don't know where to begin, but his pandering to conservative fiscal policy certainly didn't help differentiate himself from Governor Otter much at all. And his opposition to even recognizing out-of-state same-sex marriages, let alone advocating for them here at home... I know we're a conservative state, but was that really necessary to say that in the Idaho Falls debate? Why not just say nothing at all? Way to piss on your base, guys.

Ah well. Now the reddest of red states just got a bit redder. At least most of the semi-urban areas held their own and kept a small Democratic minority voice in state government. But I don't know what good that will do against the onslaught of anti-immigrant sentiment that we'll likely see in this coming Legislative session. We'll probably see an Arizona-style law be attempted to target and discriminate against Hispanics. Good thing the ACLU still has our backs, fight the fascists in court if we can't fight them any other way.

2. DINOS
Walt Minnick ran as a Dem so he could oppose Sali. Sali had to go and now the repugs have that seat back. I look for Allred to run as a repug next time as it will be an open race. We, the Idaho progressives need true progressive candidates. I live in Blaine county, a wonderful island of blue but even here the Democratic party is weak as far as participation goes. A lot of talk but no action.
