Senator Barack Obama Has Been Opposing a Filibuster of Alito? |
|
Call Senator Obama! Capitol Hill toll free (ask for Senator Obama’s office): 888-355-3588 From BuzzFlash: BuzzFlash Has Heard a Rumor that Senator Barack Obama Has Been Opposing a Filibuster of Alito Inside the Democratic Caucus
We hope this isn't true, but BuzzFlash has been told by a knowledgeable source that Senator Barack Obama is opposing a filibuster of Alito during the debate raging within the Democratic Senate Caucus. The implication is that he is against such a filibuster on "strategic grounds." Carolyn Kay MakeThemAccountable.com

2. I support Obama-still do, |
|
but am beginning to have my misgivings. Although I did everything in my power to help get him elected, since then, beginning with his dem convention speech, my confidence has been slip sliding away. Maybe I'm just not smart enough to understand strategy at that level...

personal solution. he is sure that if he continues to be the smart, reasonable, centrist guy that he is, everything will be fine. in ordinary times, he would be right. he does not seem to grasp that we are not in ordinary times.

I need more than a rumour than to condemn the man. He has been a great disablity advocate and he will not loose my support based on the rumour mill.

...the DC office. They are busy, busy, busy. The staffer I spoke to stated that Sen Obama has not made a decision yet, however is taking note of what the voters of Illinois are saying. I took that to be encouraging.
BTW, as busy as this staffer was, she was incredibly friendly and pleasant.
Cheers!

7. Any official statements from Obama yet? |
|
I haven't heard any, personally, and I'm wondering if you guys have?
I'm not knocking BuzzFlash at all, but I'm not passing any judgment on Obama until I see something other than a "rumor" from BuzzFlash.
I'm wondering seriously if Obama is taking stock of the attitudes of the people who sent him to DC--Illinois voters, in other words.
My personal expectation (maybe I should say hope...) is that Obama will follow the expressed wishes of his constituents. I'm no insider, and I sure don't know what is going on in his offices, so take this as just my two cents--ok?
I fired off emails to Durbin and Obama both asking them to please support the filibuster. Those emails went out shortly after it broke in the news that Kerry was willing to actually step up. I have not received a response from either office. I'm not upset about it, yet. I figure the staff is probably pretty busy right now.
Hangin' in there...

8. Well, I called both Senators Chicago offices on Thursday |
|
and gave them my take on this: It's time for the Dems to make a stand.
Got the usual thank you and we'll let the Senator know, but I don't think it will make one bit of difference.
I'm in kind of funk right now. I feel more helpless now than I did in 2003.
