Chicago DU'ers, would you like to meet someone from out of town? |
|
Namely, me.
I'll be in Chicago for a writer's conference at the end of April. Wednesday, April 26th, (to be exact,) is my "free" day. I'm looking for a few evilDU'ers that would like to go out for pizza with me! This is the first time I've been in a city of this size alone. Part of me is scared, part of me can't wait for the adventures I'm sure to have! ;-)
What's the best pizza in Chicago, how do I get there, and how many would like to join me for a pie?

Okay, I'm actually staying in Deerfield for most of my visit. The first night, though, I'm somewhere downtown. I don't know anything about getting around Chicago, which makes me nervous. Other than that, I'm looking forward to meeting some of the DU'ers that call that area home!
Are you also a Gino's aficionado? Where's the best pizza in Chicago?

5. If you are flying into O'hare... |
|
you can take the Blue Line (leg of subway system) that will get you downtown. From there you can take the Metra train system to get you out to Deerfield. I'm flying into O'Hare, so this is exactly what I needed! I'll definitely have to give those maps some careful studying in the next several days. Thank you for posting them!
In the meantime, I'm still waiting for some more pizza suggestions, and hopefully, I'll meet some DU'ers at the same time!

everybody has their neighborhood faves. of the downtown ones, i think uno's is the best. haven't been there in forever. but gino's is fine. as far as getting around i will tell you one thing about chicago- people are always happy to help. always. it is easy to get downtown from ohare. get on the train, it only goes one way. the commuter (deerfield) station is a ways away from either pizza joint, but still, it is not that hard, and you can always catch a cab.

9. I'm happy to go wherever the Chicago people |
|
recommend. The last time we were in town, we had Giordano's (13 years ago...) It was pretty good! I'll be staying in Chicago the night of the 26th, then moving to Deerfield later on the 27th for my conference. Wherever we end up going, I'd probably take public transportation to the restaurant, then cab it back to my hotel since it'll be after dark (and I'm not sure what to expect.)
I hope we'll get a few takers. One thing's for sure, we'll have fun!

10. I'm not a big fan of the traditional "chicago style" pizza... |
|
And if I do it, Giordano's would be last on my list. Lou Malnatti's is another one to check out. http://www.loumalnatis.com/locations/

I'm not sure where we'll end up for pizza right now, but I'll be thrilled to meet you and your significant other! (Think of all the fun you'll have telling someone who's visiting all the cool stuff I'll have to try to see in ONE DAY!) ;-)

Any takers on the pizza offer? Also, did we decide which pizza is the best?

20. Okay, I'm booting my own thread |
|
Maybe it will be easiest for everyone if I just pick and ask people if they'd like to join me.
At this point, I'm thinking about Gino's East, the 633 Wells Street location. I can meet on either Wednesday evening, April 26th, or Thursday evening, April 27th. I'm thinking 7:30-ish.
I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!
